This project started in November 2013 when Joerg Arndt, professor at the Nuremberg Institute of Technology, began his search for plane-filling curves on grids.

Starting with only pen and paper, he already found about 50 new ones which whetted his appetite for more. Nothing for it but to write a program to search for all plane-filling curves of a certain kind. On Christmas Eve 2013, the little helper bore him 800,000 beautiful yet unknown curves.

As a math and art buff, I got all excited when he showed me first samples at the Nuremberg Institute of Technology.

Together we continued researching the curves and their properties. It culminated in my bachelor’s thesis and the project for my master of research. A trip to the Bridges Math Art Conference in Finland encouraged us to finally launch points&edges.
